March 2000 Lecture Topic and Meeting Notice

Fronts, Backs and Bottoms-pieces from the Vernon Starr and Joanne Starr Wolfe Collection

Speaker: Bernard Starr

Bernard Starr has been a member of the Wedgwood Society almost from its inception, and served as president for 14 years. He is a member of the WSNY, Wedgwood Society of Boston, WIS, ACC, ECC, and other ceramic societies too numerous to mention. Bernie is a true student of Wedgwood ceramics, and an engaging speaker.

In addition to the presentation of several rare and interesting pieces, this lecture will help the listener develop an appreciation for the methods of production and the proper configuration of the obverse, reverse and bottoms of authentic Wedgwood. Included in the lecture will be discussion of bolt systems on vases, firing hole configurations, marks, and contour variations on the reverse of plaques.
